Delete your account and data
Effective 18 August 2026
An Ayah Ink account is optional. Reading the Qur'an and writing on it work with no account at all, and study created that way never leaves your device. If you did create a cloud account, you can delete it and the data held with it at any time, from inside the app or by writing to us.
Delete it yourself, in the app
- Open Ayah Ink and go to Settings.
- Choose the Privacy & data section.
- Under Cloud account deletion, press Delete cloud account, then press again to confirm.
The deletion happens immediately. You do not need to contact us, and there is no waiting period.
If you have already removed the app
Email hello@northstarengineering.mu from the address you used for the account, with the subject "Delete my account". We will delete the account and confirm by reply. We aim to complete requests within 30 days and normally do so within a few working days. We may ask you to confirm the request from the account's own email address, which is the only check we use to be sure an account is not deleted by someone who does not own it.
What is deleted
- Your account and sign-in identity.
- Your private cloud snapshot: the copy of your notebooks, handwriting, highlights, notes, bookmarks, layers, and khatm page-marking progress that personal sync stores.
- Any shared notebook copies and verse discussions you own, and the membership records that go with them.
- The retained lineage records that keep a revoked shared notebook out of personal sync. These consist only of a shared notebook identifier, title, and creation time, and they are removed when you delete your account.
- Your subscription and entitlement record held by our processor RevenueCat, once billing identity cleanup completes.
What is not deleted, and why
- The notebooks stored on your own device. Deleting a cloud account deliberately does not erase local study. In a local-first app, notebooks exist before any account does, so deleting the account would otherwise destroy work that was never cloud data in the first place. To remove local study, use Start fresh on this device in Settings, or remove the app.
- Records we must keep by law, such as tax and payment records for a purchase you made. These are kept only as long as the law requires and are not used for anything else. Payment records are held by our merchant of record rather than by us; we never hold your card details.
- Anonymous product analytics. These events carry no notes, no ink, no verse text, and no account identifier, so there is nothing in them to trace back to you and delete. If you had allowed “Remember this device”, the random device identifier is cleared on sign-out and deletion.
Deleting only some of your data
You can keep your account and still remove what it holds. Signing out stops further sync, and deleting individual notebooks, notes, or layers in the app removes them from your next synced snapshot. If you want a copy of your data before deleting anything, export a local backup from Settings first.
Other privacy requests
Under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017, and the GDPR where it applies, you can also request access to the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, object to or restrict certain processing, and ask for a portable copy. Write to hello@northstarengineering.mu. Our full Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why.
